In simple terms, the density of metals and other material refers to how much space an object or material takes up (volume) in relation to the amount of matter in that object or material (mass). For example, if an object is heavy and compact, like steel, it has a high density. 

The formula to measure density is p=m/V, where density (p) equals mass (m) divided by volume (v). Density is typically measured in units such as pounds per cubic inch (lb/in³) or pounds per cubic foot (lb/ft³). If you’re using the metric system, this is measured by grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³) or kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³). Additionally, density is considered an “intensive property” which means that no matter how much of a material is present, the density of it does not change.
